About the course
The Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) program is a four-years integrated professional degree program of Elementary Teacher Education offered after the senior secondary (Class XII) stage of school. The program is bilingual and interdisciplinary in nature. B.El.Ed. is a bilingual course. It is taught in both English and Hindi medium. Students have the option of writing assignments and examinations in either English or Hindi. The program is currently offered only for girls in 8 women colleges of University of Delhi. The program aims to prepare professional and competent teachers for the elementary school level.
B.El.Ed. is a four-year integrated course pursued after Class XII and leads to a graduation degree whereas B.Ed. is a two-year course taken up after graduation or post-graduation.
NCTE is the body that looks after the quality of B.El.Ed. course and institutes offering this course. NCTE stands for National Council for Teacher Education. If you are interested in pursuing this course, make sure that you do it from an institute recognized by the NCTE.
B.El.Ed. is a job oriented course too! This qualification can help you get government as well as private sector jobs. B.El.Ed. course focuses on topics such as – communication skills, teaching skills, human and child development, subject-wise knowledge and relevant theory classes/courses. The academic program is a holistic mixture of traditional classroom lectures and hands on practical sessions. In cases of most of the institutes offering this course, the 4 years long academic program is divided into two phases. The first phase – 3 years – focuses on classroom lectures and theory subjects. The remaining 1 year is dedicated towards practical training.
B.El.Ed. graduates have diverse job opportunities available in front of them. They may apply for government or private sector jobs. Apart from that, they may also become self-employed. B.El.Ed. graduates are eligible to don the role of an elementary level teacher at relevant educational institutes. Apart from educational institutes, they may also join NGOs working towards the development of education.
